YOUR MAGICAL LENS
4-WEEK PHOTO ENCAUSTIC COURSE

Your Magical Lens is a fresh approach to one of my most popular subjects: Encaustic & Photography. In this adventurous online community, we’ll combine encaustic and mixed media with your personal photographs.

We’ll sidestep common technical challenges and concentrate on the techniques I find most useful:

  • Hand coloring photos before and after waxing

  • Printing to tissue paper for photo collage

  • Photo image transfers onto wax

  • Tips for combining all 3 techniques

>> BONUS #1: Live session before class to review encaustic basics and answer questions

>> BONUS #2: Video instructions on how to photograph your work without special equipment

>> BONUS #3: Additional Zoom on 2/13 for final questions

Each week our live Zoom session will be recorded. A few bonus activities will be delivered via video, Facebook, or email when it's more appropriate. You'll get a more detailed schedule when you register so you'll know what's coming up! Additional options are available for private mentoring sessions.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Each of the 4 weekly sessions includes a new encaustic technique and demonstration, and sometimes a photography challenge. The weekly sessions are 90-minute live demonstration and Q&A, starting with an overview of the course and a live painting demo each week plus:

  • Photo challenges that encourage bold experimentation

  • Encaustic and mixed media techniques that will make your images pop

  • Exciting ways loosen up and create art anywhere

  • Insights into how I work in my own studio

Experience with basic encaustic painting is necessary to get the most out of Your Magical Lens, but you don't need to be an expert. If you are confident painting with encaustic on your own then you'll be at the right level for this class. The lessons offer rich, personalized instruction that also challenges painters with more encaustic experience to consider advanced ideas and techniques.

MEET NEW ARTISTS AND STAY CONNECTED
We all have knowledge to share! Just like in my studio classes, we brainstorm together so you are a part of the conversation instead of just watching a video on how someone else does it.

Working within a supportive community makes a huge difference in how quickly you progress. A private Facebook group is our playhouse, so you can post your work if you want to, and be able to discuss it with artists from anywhere in the world.
