Intro to Encaustic PAINTING
Saturday, February 8, 2024
1 pm - 4 pm, $145
Location: Vancouver, WA
All levels welcome/All supplies included
Encaustic is one of the oldest forms of painting, with paint made from pure pigment mixed with wax and resin. The mixture is applied hot, then reheated to fuse the layers together. No experience is necessary for this quick start wax class.
We'll start with a group painting exercise to help you try several colors while learning the basic fusing techniques using a heat gun.
Later we'll move on to techniques involving layering and scraping using wax in an assortment of vivid colors. You'll learn how to lay down the wax without air bubbles and get a smooth finish, as well as how to carve back into your wax layers. I'll have lots of materials available for you to play with, and you can work in any style you choose.
All supplies will be provided. Topics will include: brief history, layering and fusing wax, adding texture and how to set up at home. Most students will leave class with 1 - 2 finished projects.
Don't worry if you haven't tried anything like this before, the medium is very forgiving.
