WHAT IS ENCAUSTIC?
Encaustic is one of the oldest forms of painting, made from pure pigment mixed with wax and resin. The mixture is applied hot, then reheated to fuse the layers together. Encaustic is one of the most forgiving mediums available, allowing you to "undo" virtually anything, giving you the freedom to be fearless and let your creativity flow.
Encaustic is also ideal for artists seeking to add depth and dimension to their pieces. The beeswax-based paint comes in a rich array of colors, and is perfect for enhancing the tactile quality of your artwork. You can also collage with wax instead of glue to incorporate thin papers that are easily removed if you don't like the look. Encaustic blends seamlessly with other materials, including photographs, watercolor, gouache, pastel, oil, fabric, clay, wood, plaster, and more.
