EMBRACING SHARED VISIONS
The opportunity for collaboration is one of my favorite parts of being an artist. Not only collaborating with other artists in support of our journeys, but also collaborating with my collectors on the paintings they dream of. Being able to guide their personal vision into reality while staying true to my own artistic instincts is an exciting process.
I’m currently working on a new painting for one of my most enthusiastic collectors, which will be a combination of a few of her own photographs. As I developed the initial layers, I became entranced with the sky, happily lost in pushing depth and pulling contrasting colors together. As I stepped back to get a better view, I realized I was headed for a significant departure from the original images.
But I loved it.
I rarely show commissions in progress, but this area will strongly influence how I’ll approach the rest of the painting, so I really wanted to check in. I showed it to my collector with the intention of discussing whether or not she was as intrigued by it as I was. I was excited that she was!
Everything will shift a little based on this decision, so those clouds can become the star of the show. They were created with a watercolor underpainting (that you can barely see anymore), encaustic paint, and pigment sticks. I’ll post more images here as it progresses. I can’t wait!
